1. For 90 minutes on Tuesday night, Governor Mills debated Paul LePage, in their first of five scheduled debates in the fall gubernatorial campaign. They clashed on policies including affordable housing, the opioid epidemic, and abortion rights and restrictions.
2. Scarborough High reopens today after a student received threatening texts. Authorities said that a suspect has been arrested, and the threats were not credible.
3. Homeless campsites are being cleared in Portland’s Deering Oaks under “emphasis area” designation. Signage is scattered throughout the park warning visitors that camping is banned and items can be taken without notice. On Tuesday, heavy machinery was brought in to remove tents, clothing, boxes, and other items.
4. The Portland School District is changing who can go to which high school games because of fights. Starting this week, high school students will only be allowed to go to their own school’s games.
5. Aaron Judge is the American League’s single-season home run leader. The Yankees’ star hit his 62nd home run on Tuesday night, beating Roger Maris’s long-standing record. He got the blast with only one more game left in the regular season. Aaron has set the American League mark. Barry Bonds, Mark McGwire, and Sammy Sosa set higher numbers in the National League.
