JANAESOUND creator and curator of the JUNETEENTH! showcase at the State Theatre called in this AM to discuss tonight’s FB live stream.
“We’re in a time of immense pain and hopefully immense change. There’s just so much work to be done to dismantle systemic racism and oppression. I just have been so inspired by what I’ve been seeing where people are coming together. I just want to contribute the best way I know how. I’m a singer and this is what I do. I also believe that music is a healing gift from God. Why not combine all that together, raise some money for local organizations that empower Portland’s Black Community and also create opportunity for Black artists in town and celebrate this beautiful holiday.” – JANAESOUND
Listen to the conversation below and log on to the State Theatre Facebook Live page for Juneteenth! a streamed concert pre-recorded live from the empty State Theatre at 8PM TONIGHT. Juneteenth! will showcase the talent of local black musicians and raise money for organizations that empower Portland’s Black Community.
This event both celebrates and is named after the American holiday, Juneteenth – the oldest commemoration of the ending of slavery in the United States. Learn more about the history and significance of Juneteenth.
