(Environment) Five Easy Ways To Support Climate Change

Would you consider yourself an environmental enthusiast?

Me neither.

But it’s important for us to combat global warming in every way we can. Here are five easy steps you can take to do your part.

  1. When possible, use public transportation, walk, or carpool with friends. This cuts down on oil pollution, and saves gas money!
  2. Recycle. It’s SO easy. If you’re totally new to recycling, all you gotta do is make sure you don’t put cardboard, paper, or plastic in your trash. Instead, put these in your recycling bin. Then when the garbage man comes around to pick up your trash, he’ll grab your recyclables and they will be reused.
If you’re feeling really ambitious, you can make sure your high school/college/workplace separates recyclables from non-recyclables. Be sure to have an abundance of recycling bins available for your peers, whether they’re for bottles, cans, or cardboard.
    3. Get involved. There are all sorts of local events designed to better the environment. For example, if you’re 21 or older, come check out the “Stand Up for Standing Rock Fundraiser” at Flask Lounge! It’s a hip-hop showcase – featuring a performance by yours truly!
    4. Buy locally grown, organic food whenever possible. It’s typically grown with natural systems that reduce human impacts on the environment.
    5. Compost. Composting is like recycling on steroids. It’s another way to make the most out of your trash and reduce landfill. What’s really cool about composting is that the waste you use as compost is actually turned into soil – another great catalyst for a healthy environment!
Here’s a list of things you can use for compost:
    -Vegetable peelings
    -Fruit waste
    -Grass cuttings
    -Cardboard egg boxes
    -Tea bags
    -Scrunched up paper
-Small twigsOne last tip: SPREAD THE WORD. Doing your part makes for a stronger community, and doing this stuff with your homies can actually be fun (believe it or not).
