It was just a few short months ago that Armani White was living in an apartment with a leaky roof, an eviction notice at his doorstep, and the next big summer hit on his hard drive. For Armani, patience was truly a virtue, because while “Billie Eilish” had TikTok teeming with ravenous new fans and even caught the attention of Billie Eilish herself, the dreaded process of clearing a major label sample was the lone roadblock. The sample in question? N.O.R.E.’s “Nothin” which belongs to Def Jam. Fast forward to the present and not only was the sample cleared, but “Billie Eilish” released (with more than 45 million Spotify streams to date), the song was stamped by N.O.R.E. himself, and Armani signed to Def Jam. It’s funny how things come full circle.
