Megan, who refers to her fans as ‘hotties,’ coined the phrase ‘hot girl summer’ to promote woman being confident and liberating. The hashtag quickly took over Instagram and Twitter, with many celebrities using it. Most notably, Miley Cyrus posted a video dancing to Megan’s music and hashtagging ‘hot girl summer.’ Men even jumped on the train and coined ‘hot boy summer.’ Nonetheless; Megan is finally taking steps to trademark the term, as social media brands have been using it to promote their clothing. In other words, she’s doing what needs to be done.
