If you live for live music, then we’ve got some good news for you: A new study shows that concert-going can actually help you live a longer life. According to behavioral scientist Patrick Fagan at London’s Goldsmiths University, attending roughly one concert every two weeks can increase your life expectancy by a whopping nine years.
The study also found that just 20 minutes of live music increased a person’s wellbeing by 21 percent, compared to only 10 percent for doing yoga and seven percent for walking your dog. “Our research showcases the profound impact gigs have on feelings of health, happiness and wellbeing—with fortnightly or regular attendance being the key,” says Fagan, who was commissioned to do the study by the UK telecom firm O2 (which also sponsors London’s O2 Arena). “A prescription of a gig [every two weeks] could pave the way for almost a decade more years of life.” (Uproxx)
