Ever experience really slow internet connection? Same – first world problems in todays society. The Portland Press Herald reports Rep. Sara Gideon will put a bill into place that will widen the broadband connection in Maine. The bill would expand connection by placing a new tax on cellphones.
“This is not a million-dollar problem. It is far larger problem. Most of Maine’s islands have incredibly slow broadband connections. This is a huge disadvantage in today’s economy, and it prohibits island businesses from reaching customer bases, inhibits residents from taking telework opportunities, and makes it harder both for new young families to move to the islands and for young islanders to remain in their communities” said chief executive officer of Great Works Internet, Fletcher Kitterage.
The bill has been placed in front of the Legislature’s Energy, Utilities and Technology Committee. Would you be opposed to it? For more on this story click here.
