The Weeknd surprised-dropped a new 6-song EP called My Dear Melancholy on Thursday night. The R&B crooner released the project hours after unveiling its moody cover art via Instagram. My Dear Melancholy is executive produced by The Weeknd and Frank Dukes. It includes two collaborations with Gesaffelstein, as well as production by Daft Punk’s Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo, Skrillex, Mike WiLL Made-It, Daheala, Cirkut, and Marz. Earlier this week, The Weeknd shared a screenshot of a text message he sent his creative director La Mar Taylor that read, “Should we drop Friday? I’m indifferent to be honest.” The EP marks the Toronto native’s first release since his 2016 LP Starboy.
