A jury ruled that the Los Angeles County Sheriff and Fire Departments must pay Vanessa Bryant $16 million after first responders photographed the site of the helicopter crash where Kobe and Gianna Bryant died. Bryant heard the verdict with her daughter Natalia, and her close friend U.S. soccer player Sydney Leroux. Christopher Chester, whose spouse and child also died in the January 2020 crash, was awarded $15 million in the case. The award is intended to cover past, current, and future emotional stress surrounding the photos of their loved ones’ bodies.
