Collaborating for the first time since Travis Scott’s Grammy-nominated “Fe!n” from the Utopia album, Playboi Carti and Travis Scott have released a new track titled “Backrooms.” This new song, set to be part of Carti’s upcoming album tentatively titled Music, was unveiled on Monday night (Jan. 1), marking a dynamic start to the new year for the Atlanta-based rapper. The accompanying lo-fi visual showcases King Vamp and La Flame delivering their verses in a garage, with scenes featuring Carti showering an exotic dancer with money, all set against the backdrop of a massive SUV tank.
The haunting and melodic track features non-descript verses from Carti and Scott, revolving around themes of women and wealth. This latest collaboration follows a series of releases from Carti in December 2023, where he shared snippets of “Ur the Moon” and surprise drops like “Different Day” on his Opium IG account. Additionally, Carti unveiled the video for “2024,” produced by Kanye West, and King Vamp released “H00dByAir,” a nod to the Hood By Air clothing brand, along with the revelation of Carti becoming a father.
The anticipation for Carti’s new album has been building, with DJ Akademiks and Pharrell both hinting at its arrival on X (formerly known as Twitter) in December. With the release of “Backrooms” and the recent flurry of tracks, it seems Playboi Carti is gearing up to deliver an eagerly awaited album in the coming month.
