Happy Pride Month everybody! To celebrate, Hot 104.7 has put together a list of some of our favorite LGBTQ R&B, hip-hop. These artists have not only created bomb-ass music but have also helped expand the voice of the LGBTQ community through their music.
Kehlani
Kehlani is one of the hottest R&B artists on the radio right now. With her debut album, SweetSexySavage Kehlani created a voice for queer women and established herself as an LGBTQ artist. In addition to her own work, Kehlani has collaborated with other LGBTQ artists, such as Hayley Kiyoko, to create more LGBTQ music and continues to voice her support for equality through social awareness.
Frank Ocean
Frank Ocean established himself as a force of R&B on his critically acclaimed album Channel Orange. In an open letter on his Tumblr blog, he stated that he had a prior relationship with a man and that experience inspired some of his music on Channel Orange. From then on Frank Ocean became an emerging LGBTQ artist and solidified his role in the community with his second album Blonde.
Young M.A.
Young M.A. is an out and proud lesbian rapper. Her hit single “Ooouuu” reached the top 20 of the Billboard Hot 100 in 2016 and was listed in many year-end lists. Like many LGBTQ artists, she uses her music as a voice for the lesbian community and recently directed a lesbian porn.
Lucas Charlie Rose
Lucas Charlie Rose is a transgender-masculine artist and producer. He is based in Montreal, Canada and has released three EP’s (one being titled Pride) and one album as a trans artist. He is the CEO of Trans Trenderz, one of the first record labels for transgender artists.
