1. For the first time since 1985, the Kansas City Royals are World Series champions, coming back from a 2-0 ninth-inning deficit to prevail 7-2 in extra innings against the New York Mets last night.
2. Artist Pandora LaCasse installed a temporary art installation memorializing the victims of Portland’s Noyes Street fire Friday morning in Longfellow Park ahead of a service Sunday on the fire’s one-year anniversary. The memorial for the Noyes Street fire victims, called “Stars of Light,” is an installation of six lights in a tree at Longfellow Park. The park is across the street from the site of the Nov. 1, 2014, fire. The fire killed Portland residents Nicole Finlay, 26, David Bragdon Jr., 27, Ashley Thomas, 29, and Christopher Conlee, 25; Topsham resident Maelisha Jackson, 26; and Rockland resident Steven Summers, 29. Thoughts and prayers going out to the friends and families of those lost.
3. Tomorrow is Election Day and Portland residents will have a big vote to make on minimum wage. Question number one on Tuesday’s ballot is whether or not minimum wage should be raised to $15 an hour in the city of Portland. Starting January the minimum wage in Portland is set to go up to $10.10 an hour. This does not included tipped employees such as servers and bartenders. However on Tuesday, Portland residents will be able to vote to raise the minimum wage even more.
