1. The alleged mastermind of the Paris attacks, Abdelhamid Abaaoud, was killed in a police raid, the Paris prosecutor said Thursday, removing a key member from Islamic State’s ranks. Mr. Abaaoud was identified with fingerprints taken from his body at the scene of Wednesday’s raid by police on an apartment north of Paris, the prosecutor said in a statement.

2. A woman from Scarborough plead not guilty Wednesday to criminal charges of importing or receiving wildlife without a permit, after the Maine Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife seized and euthanized four of her snakes. Karrie Herring bought the Burmese pythonon Craigslist for $200, and said the other three snakes they seized were not illegal.

3. 51 one addicts are in rehab thanks to Operation Hope and the Scarborough Police Department. The answer does not always lie in making arrests and that’s what Operation Hope stands for. Those suffering from addiction can come to Scarborough Police Department without fear of arrest and instead will be led to find treatment for addiction.

4.  The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration said that last month globally was 58.86 degrees. That’s the hottest October on record by a third of a degree over the old mark, “an incredible amount” for weather records, said NOAA climate scientist Jessica Blunden.

5. Today is World Toilet Day. Created by the World Toilet Organization in 2001, this day has played a vital role in challenging governments, businesses and other groups to make safer and more accessible public bathroom facilities. An estimated 2.4 billion people lack access to sanitation facilities.
