After years of delays and postponements, the Department of Homeland Security announced Real ID will take effect in 2025. U.S. citizens will have to acquire a Real ID-compliant state-issued driver’s license or identification by May 7th, 2025.
The original deadline was 2020, but was then delayed due to the pandemic. The ID standard was pushed back twice because of a backlog of paperwork. Without a Real ID, you will not be able to board commercial aircrafts or gain access to certain facilities. You’ve got a year to get on it!
