Tiny Desk concerts always seem to bring out the absolute best in the artists we love, showcasing a side of the artistry we don’t often get to see. Raw, real emotion, funny stories between songs, small crowd interactions, and a myriad of uber-talented musicians backing the artists we love. For Scarface’s performance, all of the above rings truer than true.
Perhaps my favorite thing about Tiny Desk concerts is we get to see artists in their element, outside of their element…if that makes sense. How often do you get to experience a legendary rapper delivering career-spanning performances over live instrumentation in a setting that isn’t much bigger than the average Joe’s home office. Scarface’s story telling and room commanding voice make this one, one of them ones, as I like to say, as he performs songs such as “My Block,” “Mary Jane,” and “I Seen A Man Die.”
