With one more project on the horizon as the artist we’ve known him to be for more than a decade now, The Weeknd is deciding, maybe that’s not the name for him these days.
In a recent interview, Abel Tesfaye (you know, his REAL name) cleared up the rumors that he might retire after his forthcoming album, Hurry Up Tomorrow. What he meant was his “existence as The Weeknd.” He then went on to say, “It’s a headspace I’ve gotta get into that I just don’t have any more desire for. You have a persona, but then you have the competition of it all. It becomes this rat race – more accolades, more success, more shows, more albums, more awards, and more No. 1s. It never ends until you end it.”
If it truly is going to be the end of the era we’ve come to know him for, what an era it has been. From the Trilogy to the Super Bowl to…The Idol…to here and now. It’ll be interesting to see what the next chapter holds for one of the biggest stars in music.
