1. Three teenagers were honored Friday at Foxcroft Academy for their bravery in rescuing two people from a house fire in Atkinson earlier this month. The trio spotted flames at a home. After knocking on the doors and receiving no response, they entered an unaffected portion of the house, woke the occupants, and helped them escape to safety. They also called 911, notifying authorities of the fire. (WMTW)
2. Maine had another record-breaking year for home sale prices in 2024, with an annual median of $390,200, up a little over 8% from the 2023 median according to data released Friday by the Maine Association of Realtors. Increased inventory is a good sign of more balanced days to come, but industry experts say it’s not enough to counter the high buyer demand. And it’s definitely not enough to lower prices, which will likely continue to increase in 2025. (PH)
3. Americans can continue to expect high prices for eggs this year, new estimates show, due to the ongoing avian flu outbreak and inflation. Egg prices are estimated to increase about 20% in 2025. The average price of a dozen large, grade-A eggs was $4.15 in December, up from $3.65 in November. (WMTW)
4. The Philadelphia Eagles and the Kansas City Chiefs punched their tickets to New Orleans and Super Bowl 59. Super Bowl 59 will be a rematch of Super Bowl 57, where the Chiefs beat the Eagles 38 – 35. The game will be on February 9th on Fox. (FTW)
5. Patriots QB Drake Maye partnered with USAA and The American Legion to surprise army veteran Matt Jabuat of Lewiston with two tickets to the Super Bowl. Jabuat served as a combat medic for nearly a decade. He is a long-time Patriots fan and was surprised with the tickets at The American Legion in Portland. (WGME)
