1. The New England Patriots have fired head coach Jerod Mayo following a win against the Buffalo Bills on Sunday afternoon. The win cost New England the No. 1 pick in the upcoming draft. In one season in New England, Mayo had a 4-13 record. Robert Kraft called it “one of the hardest decisions I have ever made.” (PH)
2. Central Maine Power Co. customers began paying 7% more in their monthly bills this month to help fund $3.3 billion of upgrades to transmission lines, poles and other equipment in New England. A CMP spokesperson said it “will help reduce outages and protect our system from the threats of extreme weather in Maine.” (PH)
3. Kicking off the new year, a new law is offering transparency in rental agreements. The law inspired by complaints against Red Bank Village in SoPo requires ‘total price disclosure’ of rental housing, no hidden fees. It also gives tenants more protections in terms of notice periods on these fees or if other prices are going to be increased. (WGME)
4. Chick-Fil-A is facing backlash after making a “slight adjustment” to its waffle fries by adding pea starch to the coating. Chick-FIl-A added the pea starch to help the waffle fries stay “crispier, longer.” Comments online include “the new waffle fries are horrible”, “they’re stale, dry and hardened”, and “why mess with the old recipe?” (NN)
