1. An Extreme Heat Warning is in effect through Friday for much of southern and western Maine, with heat index values expected to reach 110 degrees Thursday. An Air Quality Alert is also in effect due to wildfire smoke, while scattered strong thunderstorms remain possible. Relief arrives this weekend, but temperatures will stay hot and humid into the Fourth of July.
2. A great white shark was spotted off Bailey Island in Harpswell Monday afternoon, prompting officials to raise a shark warning flag at Cedar Beach. The beach remains open, but swimmers are urged to stay alert and report any additional shark sightings.
3. LeBron James will return to the NBA for the 2026-27 season, however he will be leaving the Lakers after eight seasons. The Lakers are expected to build around Luka Dončić, while the Warriors, Cavaliers and Heat are among the teams reportedly interested in LeBron. (ABC)

5. AAA projects a record 72.2 million Americans will travel over the Fourth of July holiday, with more than 61 million hitting the road. Another 5.8 million are expected to fly, while cruises, trains and buses continue to see the fastest growth. Travel experts say the busiest roads will be on July 2, so leaving early is recommended.
