1. Today marks the federal deadline for Maine to agree to ban transgender athletes from competing in girls’ and women’s sports.Trump has threatened to withhold federal school funding if Maine does not comply. (WGME)
2. There was a security threat at the white house yesterday. A young child was intercepted by the Secret Service after slipping through the White House fence. He squeezed through the north lawn fence about an hour after President Trump announced planned auto tariffs. Video shows a Secret Service member with the child in his arms, who was safely reunited with his parents. (WLWT)
3. An active weekend of weather is coming up, with several days of wintry conditions and snow starting early tomorrow. Southern York County will likely see less than an inch of slush. The rest of the coastline can expect 1 to 3 inches. Inland areas are looking at 3 to 6 inches. Northern New Hampshire, including northern Oxford County and the Rangeley Lakes area, could pick up 6 to maybe 10 inches. Freezing rain and rain expected Sunday. (WMTW)
4. Dollar Tree is selling off Family Dollar stores. The two discount retailers have been under the same umbrella for about a decade. Dollar Tree purchased Family Dollar for $9 billion in 2015. The 2025 sale to a private equity group will only bring in $1 billion. Analysts said messy stores, higher prices, and over-expansion had hurt Family Dollar. Family Dollar has around 8,000 stores in the United States. (CNN)
5. It’s opening day for MLB. The red sox start their season on the road in Texas today. The first pitch is at 4pm. The Red Sox home opener is Friday, April 4 when they welcome the St. Louis Cardinals to Boston for a three-game set.
