1. Portland City Council voted 6-2 to declare a limited state of emergency on Monday in order to add 50 additional beds at the Homeless Services Center. 2. The Maine Warden Service is investigating the illegal killings of two moose in Washington and Aroostook counties. What makes these two incidents egregious and maybe a little more alarming to the public is these moose were not only killed illegally – out of season and in an area that wasn’t open to moose hunting – but were left to waste in the field,” said Lt. Aaron Cross of the Maine Warden Service. “Some people wait their entire lives to get a moose permit. If they do, that one moose that they harvest legally could feed one family or multiple families for a long time.” (PH)
3. Portland’s Christmas tree will arrive in Monument Square on Wednesday after making the journey from its home in South Portland. Holiday lights will be installed Thursday, a process that could take a few days to finish. (PH)
4. Maine’s first Costco finally opens this week. The highly anticipated store at The Downs on Payne Road in Scarborough opens on Friday. The gas station is already open. (WMTW)
5. McDonald’s first-ever collaboration with Crocs arrives today. The collab features a full line of shoes, socks, and Jibbitz charms. The collection is inspired by iconic McDonald’s characters – Grimace, Birdie, and Hamburglar. (CB)
