1. Today marks one year since Maine’s worst mass shooting left 18 people dead, 13 wounded, and countless more in fear. October 25, 2023, was youth bowling night at Lewiston’s Just-In-Time Recreation. While nearby, a cornhole tournament was getting underway at Schemengees Bar & Grille. Over the past year, the Lewiston mass shooting has prompted hearings and debate over missed warning signs, gaps in mental health, gun control, and law enforcement communication. (WGME)
2. OneLewiston is holding a commemoration event today at the Colisée. Doors open at 4:30pm. Program starts at 6pm. The program will include music, performances, and remarks, sharing information about the development of a permanent memorial. Attendees are invited to bring small items, messages, or keepsakes to commemorate this milestone. Objects left will be preserved and cataloged as part of the Maine MILL Memorial Collection. Some items may be displayed in future exhibits at the museum or as part of the permanent memorial. (oneLewiston)
3. “Do Not Eat” advisory for white-tailed deer and wild turkeys has been issued for Albion and Unity Township in Kennebec County, areas of Freedom and Unity in Waldo County. The new advisory is in addition to a previous advisory that was issued for parts of Fairfield and Skowhegan in an area of Somerset County. (WMTW)
4. A recall of cannabis products sold in Maine is growing. The original recall contained the strain “Frosted Cookies” produced by Massachusetts-based Nova Farms. Additional “Frosted Cookies” products as well as pre-ground flower of the strain “Frozay” have been added to the recall. The products affected by the original recall were sold at 14 adult-use cannabis retail stores. Nine additional stores sold products affected by the expanded recall. (WGME)
5. The Maine Bagel along Route 1 in Scarborough will be closing next month after nearly 20 years of business. The bagel shop is a family-owned business run by John Lancaster and his sons, Matthew and Nick. The Maine Bagel will be closing on Wednesday, Nov. 27, which is the day before Thanksgiving. (WMTW)
