1. A Brewer woman is recovering after being accidentally shot while bird hunting in Aroostook County. 31-year-old Amber Oaks was hit in the knee when another hunter’s loaded shotgun went off after bumping the butt of the gun against their side-by-side. This caused her hand to hit the trigger and discharge a round of birdshot into Oaks’ left knee. Oaks underwent surgery at Cary Medical Center in Caribou. (WMTW)
2. The Maine Secretary of State is warning notaries and marriage officiants about a new scam. Fraudsters are posing as clients, sending fake checks for more than the agreed amount, then asking for a refund. When the check bounces, the victim is left out the money. Officials say never refund an overpayment and always wait for payments to clear. (WGME)
3. The long-neglected Bangor Mall sign is finally gone. Mall owner Namdar Realty Group demolished the broken, half-lit sign Monday after being sued by the city over numerous code violations. The move comes as Namdar begins repairs to the mall’s property, including fixing roads, storm lines, and the roof. (BDN)
4. Two Old Port restaurants are closing their doors. Low Stakes Lodge announced it will shut down in the coming weeks, with plans to renovate and reopen as part of Highroller Lobster Co. next door. Meanwhile, Bar Futo will serve its last meal on November 1st before a new concept takes over the space this winter. (PH / WMTW)
5. Apple has announced that Apple TV+ is being renamed “Apple TV.” The announcement was made alongside the reveal of the streaming release date for F1 The Movie, which will be December 12th. Apple also produces a hardware product called Apple TV and has the Apple TV app, which includes more than just Apple TV+ content. (9to5)
