1. The Portland Planning Board unanimously approved a nearly 400-foot, 30-story tower planned for the Old Port, which would become Maine’s tallest building. It includes more than 70 apartments, commercial space, an 88-room hotel and a top-floor restaurant. Developers will pay $3.3 million into the city’s affordable housing fund and now move on to permits and financing. (PH)

3. A car hopped a curb in Kennebunkport’s Dock Square early Tuesday, crashing into the front of Scalawags Pet Boutique. Police say the 21-year-old driver may have fallen asleep after an overnight shift. No one was hurt, but the storefront window was heavily damaged, forcing the shop to close temporarily just days into the town’s Christmas Prelude celebration. (WMTW)
4. Two Maine treats just made the New York Times’ “14 Best Desserts” list, with Franciska Wine Bar’s Dulce de Leche Flan in Portland and McLoons Lobster Shack’s Blueberry Bread Pudding in South Thomaston earning high praise. (PH)
