For today’s If You Can Hear Her, You Can Be Her interview, I got to chat with with Emma Tiedemann, Director of Broadcasting for the Portland Sea Dogs, about carving out a career in sports media and building a seat at the table!
Emma’s journey started as a multi-sport athlete. She grew up playing several sports before discovering her passion for broadcasting at just 15 years old! From that point on, she was focused. She pursued opportunities across the country, building experience everywhere she could, from Texas to Alaska to Missouri and beyond, before joining the Portland Sea Dogs in 2020.
Today, her role goes far beyond calling games! As Director of Broadcasting, Emma handles play-by-play, creates social media content, and manages media relations, playing a key role in how fans connect with the team.
One of her proudest career moments came when she had the opportunity to call a Boston Red Sox game at Fenway Park with her family in the stands. This was a full-circle moment that reflected years of dedication and hard work!
Emma’s advice to young women is powerful: pursue your passions with intention, work hard, and don’t wait for someone to offer you a seat. Bring your own chair to the table.
