- Phil Collins
- Billy Idol
- Iron Maiden
- Joy Division/New Order
- Oasis
- Sade
- Luther Vandross
- Wu-Tang Clan
The artists who did not make it in this go-around include the Black Crowes, Jeff Buckley, Mariah Carey, Melissa Etheridge, Lauryn Hill, INXS, New Edition, Pink, and Shakira. In addition, the Rock Hall honored these acts under the Early Influence and Music Excellence categories.

Musical Excellence Award:
