3. Three kayakers were rescued near Two Lights State Park in Cape Elizabeth after one of the boats capsized around sunset Wednesday. One kayaker made it to shore to call for help, while the others stayed in the water until rescuers arrived. Officials say a life jacket and a flare helped crews locate them, and no injuries were reported. (NCM)
4. Thornton Academy and the Saco School Department remain at odds over a new contract, with disagreements over contract length and student transfer policies. Both sides say they want to continue their 200-year partnership and are hopeful a deal can be reached before the current agreement expires June 30. (PH)
5. The FIFA World Cup kicks off today across the U.S., Mexico and Canada. It’s the biggest World Cup ever, featuring 48 teams and a record 104 matches. Gillette Stadium is being temporarily renamed “Boston Stadium” for the tournament and will host seven World Cup matches — five group-stage games, a Round of 32 matchup, and a quarterfinal.
