1. Hundreds of firefighters are working around the clock to battle fast-moving wildfires in Southern California as fears grow that winds might make matters worse on Thursday. Winds are expected to pick up — with gusts up to 80 mph — and likely fuel wildfires that have engulfed numerous hillsides in flames, quickly incinerated neighborhoods and prompted the evacuation of more than 110,000 people. (CNN)

2. Gov. Paul LePage is being pressed to consider a run for U.S. Senate by none other than President Trump himself. According to a report from the Washington Post, Trump has told advisers he plans to not only call Gov. LePage and ask him to enter the 2018 race but to also offer his endorsement. Independent Sen. Angus King is the incumbent. (WCSH6)

3. Pearl Harbor Remembrance Day. This day commemorated the 1941 attack on Pearl Harbor by Japan, which resulted in the deaths of more than 2,400 United States citizens and sparked the U.S. to join World War II.

4. Less than a week after the Maine Mariners revealed the logo and colors they’ll wear to play ECHL hockey in 2018, the folks who run Cross Insurance Arena introduced another minor-league sports team. This one will play football in the same building. The Maine Mammoths are coming to downtown Portland, a National Arena League expansion franchise that will play here next spring and summer.(PH)

5. Good news for guys that have trouble pitching tents. Drugmaker Pfizer is launching its own generic version of Viagra when the impotence pill gets its first generic competition next week. The AP reports Pfizer Inc. will begin selling the alternate white pill at half the $65-a-pill retail price on Monday, the same day its patent-protected monopoly ends. (APNEWS)
