1. Georgia authorities arrested a white father and son Thursday and charged them with murder in the February shooting death of a black man they had pursued in a truck after spotting him jogging in their neighborhood. The charges came more than two months after Ahmaud Arbery, 25, was killed. 2. The United States coronavirus cases top 1,256,000. America’s death toll stands at more than 75,600. While businesses are slowly opening again across the country, an influential model often cited by the White House has said the death toll from the virus could exceed 130,000 by August. (CNN)
3. No new coronavirus-related death were reported in Maine on Wednesday. The death toll stands at 62. According to the Maine CDC’s Thursday briefing there have been 1,330 coronavirus cases statewide. The increase of 76 cases since Wednesday includes 39 cases from Tyson Foods in Portland and 13 cases at the Springbrook Center in Westbrook. (PORTLAND PRESS HERALD)
4. Gov. Janet Mills announced Thursday that it will triple its COVID-19 testing capacity thanks to a deal with IDEXX. Making Maine the 1st state in the US to eliminate testing barriers. This will soon allow anyone in Maine suspected of having COVID-19 to receive a test. “This is a game changer,” said Dr. Shah, Director of the Maine CDC. (WGME)
