1. A black man by the name of George Floyd died after a white police officer was shown kneeling on his neck during an arrest. Floyd repeatedly said, “I can’t breathe,” drawing immediate comparisons to Eric Garner’s death in New York. Minneapolis’ mayor said the unidentified cop “failed in the most basic, human sense,” while experts say the officer restrained Floyd for too long. Four cops have been fired since the incident came to light. Hundreds of angry protestors gathered in the Minneapolis intersection where Floyd died.
2. The United States coronavirus cases top 1.68 million. America’s death toll stands at nearly 99,000. New York remains the hardest hit state, with 29,302 deaths.
3. One new coronavirus related death and 35 new coronavirus cases were reported in Maine on Tuesday, bringing the statewide death toll to 79 and the case number to 2,109 of which 712 are active. Over 1,300 Mainers have recovered. The number of hospitalized COVID-19 patients shot up over the Memorial Day weekend in Maine. The state went from the low 30s to now 60 patients with coronavirus in Maine hospitals.
4. Salvage BBQ in Portland has shut down until at least June 9th after an employee tested positive for Covid-19. The restaurant says the employee was sent home Saturday, after informing management that they may have been exposed to the virus. On Sunday, the employee tested positive. The restaurant will remain closed for at least 14 days, and their entire staff will undergo testing while the building is disinfected.
5. KFC is rolling out a new chicken sandwich called “KFC Chicken Sandwich.” “It includes a chicken filet that’s 20% larger. It has thicker pickles and a new type of bun to ‘hug it in the right way,'” said the chain’s chief marketing officer. It’s being tested in Orlando, Florida until June 21.
