1. President Trump warned on Tuesday that the “nasty horrible’” coronavirus will get worse in the U.S. before it gets better. “Whether you like the mask or not, they have an impact,” he said. “I’m getting used to the mask,” he added, pulling one out after months of suggesting that mask-wearing was a political statement against him. 2. The U.S. tops 3.9 million coronavirus cases with more than 142,000 dead. The Maine CDC reported 12 new cases and 1 death on Tuesday. The statewide death toll is now 118. Maine has 414 active cases, a decrease of 21 since Monday. (WMTW)
3. A “Women for Trump” event, originally scheduled for today at Stars and Stripes Freeport brewery, is moving locations, after the brewery’s owners said they were misled by the political event. Jimmy the Greek’s in Old Orchard Beach is now the first stop on the map for the “Women for Trump” bus tour. (WGME)
4. The Maine Principals Association announced the high school fall sports season will be moved from August 17th to September 8th. The first countable games will now be pushed from September 4th to September 17th. The preseason is shortened from three weeks to two weeks. (WMTW)
5. The coronavirus outbreak has forced the 2020 Maine Marathon to go virtual. The race, which was scheduled for Sunday, October 4, will take place virtually over two weeks. Runners can also choose to defer their entry fee to 2021, donate it or request a refund. (WMTW)
