1. The U.S. tops 4.2 million coronavirus cases with more than 148,000 dead. The Maine CDC reported 18 new cases and no new deaths on Monday. The statewide death toll remains at 119. Maine now has 421 active cases.
2. The death of a woman Monday near Bailey Island, Maine is being investigated as a possible shark attack. Maine Marine Patrol is urging swimmers and boaters to use caution near Bailey Island until further notice. If this is confirmed to be a shark attack, it would be the first ever in Maine.
3. A Lisbon man has been charged in the Deering Oaks Park crash. 29-year-old Jonathan Burt drove a black sedan through the baseball field at Deering Oaks Park, where it struck a 76-year-old man. The victim was transported to a local hospital, where he died of his injuries.
4. The “sleep out” protest at Portland’s city hall has become its own marketplace including an electronic charging station, a shower station, and food and supply station. Run by volunteers, all free and available to those in need. Many protesters are demanding the city create more affordable housing and provide free healthcare.
5. Two major league games scheduled for Monday night were postponed after more than a dozen Marlins players and staff members tested positive for COVID-19. The Marlins’ home opener against Baltimore was called off, as was the Yankees’ game at Philadelphia. The Yankees would have been in the same clubhouse the Marlins used last weekend.
