1. The father of Jacob Blake, an unarmed Black man shot by police, said his son was paralyzed from the waist down. The family’s attorney, Ben Crump said it would “take a miracle” for Jacob Blake to walk again. Blake’s mother, Julia Jackson, appealed to Americans to “examine your heart…We need to heal our country.” (AP)
2. On Tuesday at the RNC, the First Lady and the Secretary of State spoke. Trump presided over a small naturalization ceremony, welcoming a handful of immigrants into citizenship. “In my husband, you have a president who will not stop fighting for you and your families,” said the wife of the former reality TV show host. 3. The U.S. tops 5.7 million coronavirus cases with over 178,000 related deaths. The Maine CDC reported no new deaths and 12 new cases on Tuesday. Maine’s death toll is 131 w/ 463 active cases. Outbreaks at the York County Jail and a rehab center in Madison have been linked to the Millinocket wedding outbreak. (WMTW)
4. One University of Maine student has been suspended and seven others have been disciplined after they didn’t follow social distancing rules at parties. The crackdown on student gatherings comes as UMaine prepares for the start of the fall semester next week. (BDN)
5. On September 16, McDonald’s will roll out Spicy Chicken McNuggets at U.S. locations for a limited time. It’s the first time since 1983 that McDonald’s has offered a new McNuggets flavor. Mighty Hot Sauce, which includes a blend of crushed red pepper, spicy chilies and garlic, will be available alongside the new nugs. (CNN)
