1. The U.S. tops 9.2 million Coronavirus cases w/ over 231,000 related deaths. The Maine CDC reported one new death and 84 additional cases on Monday. The statewide death toll is 148 w/ 1,063 active cases.
2. Today is Election Day! Get out and VOTE and hang on tight for the results. From the race to the White House to the battle for U.S. Senate in Maine to selecting who will represent the state in the House of Representatives in District 1 and District 2, there are big decisions to be made.
3. Maine voters have set a record for the number of absentee ballots sent in before an election. More than 500,000 ballots have already been returned to town and city clerks. During the last presidential election in 2016, about half as many people in Maine voted by absentee ballot.
4. Officials are warning we likely won’t know the result of the presidential election on election night. However Maine’s Secretary of State Matt Dunlap, says he’s confident we’ll have a relatively clear picture of how Mainers voted by tonight. Where we stand on how Maine will split its four electoral votes in the presidential race, whether a Senate candidate has won more than 50 percent of the vote, and which congressional candidates won their districts. Town and city clerks have been processing absentee ballots for about two weeks now.
5. If you need a ride to the polls today, there are free options out there for you. The Community Connector serving the greater Bangor area is offering free bus rides for everyone. All rides on the Greater Portland Metro buses will be free for everyone today! The City Link/Purple Bus in Lewiston-Auburn is also offering free rides. Uber and Lyft are offering 50 percent discounts to polling places.
