1. The U.N. refugee agency says more than 3.5 million people have fled Ukraine since Russia’s invasion, passing another milestone in an exodus that has led to Europe’s worst refugee crisis since World War II.
2. A close call was caught on camera in Standish Wednesday as a car sped past a school bus just moments before a 7-year old girl stepped out. Bus driver Tina Dippolito acted quickly and immediately pulled the girl back from the road.
3. Work on the 50 year old Piscataqua River Bridge carrying Interstate 95 between Maine and New Hampshire should finish by the end of March, two months ahead of schedule. Officials say the bridge can survive another 50 years of use.
4. UMaine hired Chris Markwood as their new men’s basketball coach. Markwood was a basketball star at South Portland High and former player and assistant coach at UMaine.
5. A taxidermy lynx has been returned to its rightful home. @PolicePortland tweeted “Purrfect end to this kitty caper: no more missing Lynx! This morning Officer Brian Rollins returned the taxidermy animal to the Sagamore Hill Lounge after officers tracked down the suspect and asked him to return the lynx right meow.”
