1. Maine Revenue Services plans to begin issuing $850 checks to eligible taxpayers this week and expects to have the majority mailed by the end of the month — if state officials can find enough envelopes.
2. As of today, you can no longer buy flavored tobacco products in Portland or Brunswick. New ordinances banning the sale are in effect.
3. Sam Hunkler, a doctor from Beals has qualified to run for governor in November, likely setting up another three-way race for the office. Had Hunkler not entered the race, it would have been the first head-to-head match-up for Maine governor in about four decades.
4. Starting June 15, food trucks will no longer be able to park on the Eastern prom road during the summer months. Those trucks that are selected to be part of a pilot program will be relocated to the middle parking lot on Cutter Street. The city will hold a lottery today to select trucks for 10 spots in the new location.
