1. A tip on the whereabouts of a shooting suspect led to a seven-hour police standoff Sunday on Oxford Street in Lewiston. The 9th annual Commit to Get Fit 5K run and Harvest Walk was rerouted because of the heavy police presence. The investigation into a shooting suspect’s whereabouts was ongoing later Sunday.
2. Governor Janet Mills will be promoting a partnership meant to revitalize Sanford’s downtown area today. Mills will visit businesses to promote the $34 million Downtown Sanford Village Partnership between the city of Sanford and the Maine DOT. The investment hopes to make downtown Sanford more attractive for commercial and residential development by rehabilitating infrastructure in the city’s center.
3. South Portland likely will enact a ban on flavored tobacco products next spring, joining Portland, Brunswick and Bangor in outlawing sales. The ban has resurfaced in light of a sharp increase in tobacco and e-cigarette use among middle school and high school students in the city.
4. The new Equality Community Center on Casco Street in Portland celebrated its grand opening on Friday with a ribbon-cutting ceremony and a community block party. The Center will act as a hub for the LGBTQ community in the city.
5. On Sunday, rookie backup QB Bailey Zappe threw for 309 yards and two touchdowns as the Patriots defeated the Browns 38-15.
