1. State fire investigators say one person died in the large hotel fire in Kittery on Wednesday. Investigators found the body around 2:15 p.m. The state medical examiner is still trying to identify the victim.

2. Christopher Maurer of Biddeford pleaded not guilty to several charges related to the Jan 6 capital insurrection. Maurer is accused of hitting, screaming at and making obscene gestures toward Capitol police officers before he was pepper-sprayed and left the area. Along with video, cell phone tower data, along with charges from a rental car company and a Dunkin’ coffee shop also linked Maurer to the Capitol around the time of the riot.

3. An effort to bar those under age 17 from marrying got through the Maine Senate on Thursday. Under current law, Mainers must reach 18 to decide to marry on their own. Parental consent is needed for those aged 16 and 17. Between 2014 and 2018, 58 Mainers below age 18 got married. Only seven states, including Massachusetts and Connecticut, bar marriage for those under 18 with no exceptions. (BDN)

4. The Saco Drive-In is reopening for the season at its new home at Aquaboggan Water Park next Friday with a double feature of “The Super Mario Bros. Movie” and “Puss in Boots: The Last Wish.” (WGME)
