1. One person was killed and three others were injured in the three-alarm fire at Elm Towers, an apartment complex for seniors in Waterville. The Kennebec Water District has issued a “do not drink order” due to the presence of firefighting foam in the water distribution system. (PH)
2. Burglary suspect, Alexis Irving, was initially detained during a disturbance call at Clarks Pond Parkway in So Po. Officers placed Irving in the back seat of a police cruiser. While they continued their investigation she was able to loosen her restraints, climb through a small partition separating the back of the cruiser from the driver’s seat, start the car and drive off. The police used the stolen cruiser’s GPS system to track her down at a residence in Biddeford. (PH)
3. UMaine System trustees have approved tuition and fee increases due to factors such as declining enrollment, inflation, and financial pressures. The budget includes a 3% tuition hike for in-state students starting this fall, along with higher room and board expenses and student fees. (PH)

5. It’s Dunkin’ Iced Coffee Day. Dunkin’ will donate a dollar from each iced coffee sold to its Joy In Children Foundation. It will then be distributed to St. Mary’s Regional Med Center in Lewiston, Northern Light in Bangor, and the Barbara Bush Children’s Hospital at Maine Med in Portland. (NCM)
