1. Ted Kaczynski, known as the Unabomber, was found dead in his North Carolina prison cell on Saturday. Kaczynski had built and mailed bombs for 17 years killing three people and injuring dozens. In 1996 he was found living in a cabin in the Montana mountains, officials found a 40,000 page manifesto and a live bomb that was about to be mailed. (KCCI)
2. Police are investigating a suspicious death in Southwest Harbor. A passerby discovered a female in a ditch near 61 Main Street. Maine State Police are asking anyone who observed any suspicious activity in the area between Saturday night and Sunday morning to call them. (WMTW)
3. Twenty residents of a Brunswick housing development were displaced by a raging fire Sunday afternoon that left five townhouse units uninhabitable. About 45 firefighters from Brunswick, Bath, Topsham, West Bath, Lisbon and Freeport fought the fire. The American Red Cross sent a team to help displaced residents with clothing and temporary shelter. (PH)
4. The City of Portland is receiving a multi-million dollar grant from the Maine State Housing Authority for a homeless shelter on 166 Riverside Industrial Parkway. This still needs to be approved, it will go before city council today. (WGME)
5. L.L. Bean’s new Maine headquarters is complete after a $110 million remodel. The building features expansive windows, natural light, indoor and outdoor meeting spaces, tree houses, fireplaces, public trails and a 10,000-square-foot open courtyard. Workers have an on-site coffee shop, self-serve cafeteria, five kitchens, 14 quiet rooms, five mothers’ rooms, soundproof phone booths, huddle rooms, dynamic workstations with ergonomic chairs, desks and monitor setups, and a health clinic. Employees, spouses and retired L.L. Bean employees will also have access to a fitness center with fully equipped locker rooms. L.L. Bean also added a product-testing lab featuring a rain room and a production studio to photograph products and models for their catalogs. (PH)
