1. The U.S. Coast Guard launched a search and rescue mission to find a submarine carrying a Titanic tour group. Oceangate’s Titan vessel can carry five people and has 96 hours of life support available. The vessel lost contact 1 hour and 45 minutes into its expedition. (JN)
2. Two people were found dead in Westbrook after a report of shots fired around 8:30 p.m. Monday near the 800 block of Main Street. One person was taken into custody and police say there is no threat to the public. Witnesses say they heard as many as 10 gunshots at the time of the shooting. (WGME)
3. A multibillion dollar military contract to build fighter jet engines is set to add hundreds of jobs at Pratt & Whitney’s plant in North Berwick. The company is more than doubling the size of its engine upgrade team, from 200 to 500 people. Company officials announced the news from the Paris Air Show yesterday. (PH)
4. Cape Elizabeth police are asking residents to keep an eye out for a ram wandering around the city. The ram was in the process of being relocated from Richmond Island when he made a break for freedom. Sunday night he was seen in the parking lot at Crescent Beach State Park but then ran off towards Broad Cove, where it managed to evade officers. (WMTW)
5. Meta is developing a text-based social media platform with a 500-character limit on posts. The new app, reportedly named “Threads,” will be a direct competitor to Twitter. This comes as Twitter’s ad sales are declining. (JN)
