1. Hundreds of Mainers will walk together in Portland and Bangor this weekend to honor those who have lost their lives to suicide and support those struggling with mental health issues. The Out of the Darkness walk to fight suicide is an opportunity to get the message out about the need for more access to mental health services. The Portland walk starts at 10 a.m. at Ft. Allen Park on Saturday. The Bangor walk starts at 10 a.m. at the Bangor Waterfront on Sunday. (NCM)
2. Maine man, Paul Hatch, is accused of stealing a fuel truck in Winthrop, leading police on a chase, and crashing into another vehicle before losing control of the truck, causing it to tip over onto its side. Police say at the time of the crash, the stolen vehicle was carrying approximately 1,100 gallons of kerosene and number 2 fuel oil. Crews were able to offload the fuel oil before it leaked and caused any damage. (WGME)
3. The Biden administration announced a major initiative to protect Americans from medical debt on Thursday, outlining plans to develop federal rules barring unpaid medical bills from affecting patients’ credit scores. The regulations, would potentially help tens of millions of people who have medical debt on their credit reports, eliminating information that can lower scores and make it harder for many to get a job, rent an apartment, or secure a car loan. The new rules would be developed next year. (CBS)
4. Tomorrow is National Public Lands Day. The nation’s largest single-day volunteer effort. It celebrates the connection between people and green space in their community, inspires environmental stewardship, and encourages use of open space for education, recreation, and health benefits. Admission at Acadia National Park will be free in celebration. (NPS)
