1. An Illinois man was arrested after leading a police chase through 4 towns in 2 Maine counties. The chase started in Farmington and ended with spike mats in Auburn. Video of the crash shows police vehicles stopping short of the spike mat while the suspect’s SUV runs into a utility pole on the sidewalk. The driver was reportedly wanted by Farmington police for a domestic violence offense. (WMTW)
2. A 10-year-old child from the midwest is reportedly responsible for posting a threat against Lewiston High School on social media. It’s unclear if the child will face charges. (WGME)
3. A lack of applicants has lead to firefighter shortages in Maine. “There was a time when you would get 60 or 70 applicants for one position. Now, we’re lucky to get one,” Brunswick Fire Chief Ken Brillant said. Brunswick is currently looking to fill 8 positions. (WGME)
4. Meryl Sweep has officially hit the road in downtown Portland. The new street sweeper was named through a Portland Downtown contest. Officials narrowed down submitted names to; Meryl Sweep, Sweepy Todd, The Green Monstah, Sweep Caroline, and Orlando Broom. The Portland community was invited to vote for their favorite. (WGME)
