1. Carl Sheline will serve another term as Lewiston’s mayor after winning the special run-off election by just 122 votes. Sheline provided a statement to WMTW, thanking his supporters “for placing their trust in me once more for a second term in the mayor’s office.” (WMTW)
2. Landlords report that Portland’s rental market is cooling down for the first time in years. The median rent in Portland right now is $2,500, $300 less than it was in July. Listings are lasting longer than they would have in the 2021 and 2022 markets. (BDN)
3. The Biden Administration is sending $28 million to Maine to improve the Amtrak Downeaster. Some of the funding could help restore service from Brunswick to Rockland after it was cut nearly a decade ago. The Downeaster now runs 145 miles between Boston and Brunswick. (BDN)
4. IG is developing a new feature called “flipside” that allows users to establish a new, private side to their profile where they can post more candid and personal photos for a subset of their friends, think “finsta.” The project has not yet entered public tests. (TC)
5. Doritos introduced Empirical: a nacho cheese spirit. For $65 a bottle they say you’ll taste nacho cheese, corn tostada, umami, and a hint of acidity in their “unclassified spirit”. It’s recommended for margaritas and Bloody Marys. (People)
