1. Sam Bankman-Fried was sentenced to 25 years in prison for stealing $8 billion through his FTX cryptocurrency exchange scheme. Prosecutors had sought a longer sentence of 30 to 40 years. “They built something really beautiful and I threw all of that away,” the 32-year-old said of his team at the company. Manhattan U.S. Attorney Damian Williams said, “Samuel Bankman-Fried orchestrated one of the largest financial frauds in history.” (JN)
2. Here’s when you can watch Cumberland’s Julia Gagnon on American Idol next. Her platinum ticket allows her to skip the first round of the Hollywood week competition, which will be the focus of Sunday’s episode. Gagnon will likely find out if her “American Idol” journey continues on Monday’s episode, when the judges are scheduled to reveal the top 24 contestants.
