1. A government advisory panel endorsed a second COVID-19 vaccine Thursday, paving the way for the shot to be added to the U.S. vaccination campaign. The FDA advisers agreed the benefits of the Moderna vaccine outweighed the risks for those 18 years old and up. (NEWS CENTER)
2. The U.S. tops 17.2 million Covid-19 cases with over 310,000 deaths. The Maine CDC reported 9 new covid related deaths and a record 590 new cases on Thursday. Maine’s death toll is 276 with 6,937 active cases. 191 Mainers are currently hospitalized w/ covid-19. (WMTW)
3. Hundreds of Maine health care workers have been vaccinated so far. People who receive the vaccine will receive a card that reminds them when they were vaccinated, as well as where and when they need to return for a second shot. (WGME)
4. UMaine men’s hockey players are in quarantine after a positive test. Games previously scheduled this weekend at UMass Lowell will not be played. (WMTW)
5. Snowfall totals… Gorham was the big winner yesterday w/ 24.1 inches of snow reported. Portland Jetport saw 17.6. Lewiston got a foot and a quarter. Light work for Bangor with only 2.2 inches. (WMTW)
