President Joe Biden signed 10 orders jump starting his national COVID-19 strategy to increase vaccinations and testing, lay the groundwork for reopening schools and businesses, and immediately increase the use of masks — including a requirement that Americans mask up for travel. 2. The US tops 24.6 million Covid-19 cases with over 410,000 related deaths. The Maine CDC reported 6 new deaths and 675 new cases on Thursday. Maine’s death toll is 536 with 182 Mainers currently hospitalized. (WMTW)
3. In about 2 weeks the grandstands at the former Scarborough Downs will re-open as a COVID-19 vaccination clinic for MaineHealth. Crossroad Holdings donated the land in hopes of ending the pandemic sooner. Depending on vaccine availability, Mills says the goal is to vaccinate 1,000 people a day once it’s open. (WGME)
4. Warmer temps and rain have slowed the formation of ice and after multiple rescues this week Maine Wardens warned ice may not be safe. They encourage people to use common sense, a chisel to check the ice, and do things in groups. (WGME)
