1. United Airlines said Monday it found loose bolts and other “installation issues” on a part of some Boeing 737 Max 9 jets that were inspected after a mid-flight blowout on a similar Alaska Airlines jet on Friday. The Federal Aviation Administration grounded all Max 9s operated by Alaska and United and some flown by foreign airlines. (PH)
2. An iPhone is working well after it was sucked out of the Alaska Airlines flight that lost a door plug midflight. On Sunday, Washington resident Sean Bates posted a photo of an iPhone that fell from the plane. The phone was “Still in airplane mode with half a battery and open to a baggage claim for #AlaskaAirlines ASA1282…Survived a 16,000-foot drop perfectly intact!” The National Transportation Safety Board said two phones had been found, as well as the door plug. 3. Portland Jetport received 10.1″ of snow on Sunday. Acton was the winner with 15″. Bridgton received 14″. Lewiston had 4″ and Auburn had 5″. (WMTW) Another storm will head into Maine late today, this one dumping heavy, windswept rains on top of the snow that fell Sunday, likely causing power outages and some flooding before it blows out of the state Wednesday afternoon. 4. Recreational Cannabis sales hit $217 million in 2023, a 36% increase over the previous year. Store owners across the state say the market is oversaturated and the boost in sales comes from more stores opening, rather than shops raking in money. Prices decreased by 16% in 2023 reflecting an overproduction of cannabis. (PH)
5. The Michigan Wolverines wrapped up an undefeated 15-0 season on Monday night by capturing the College Football Playoff National Championship. Michigan defeated the Washington Huskies 34-13. This is Michigan’s first college football championship since 1997 and the program’s tenth national title overall. (CBS)
