1. Joe Biden was formally nominated as the Democratic presidential candidate during the DNC on Tuesday night. Two ex-Presidents, Jimmy Carter and Bill Clinton, spoke on Biden’s behalf. Cindy McCain, the widow of former GOP senator John McCain, was featured in a video in which she detailed the close friendship between her ex-husband and Biden. (AP)
2. In the first of 4 sentencing days, yesterday victims of Joseph DeAngelo, a serial murderer and rapist known as The Golden State Killer, faced him in court. The 74-year-old former cop was arrested in 2018, and is expected to be sentenced to life without parole on Friday. He is believed to have committed at least 50 rapes, and murdered 13 people, as well as many other crimes. (USA TODAY)
3. Postmaster General Louis DeJoy announced that he would suspend all post office cutbacks until after Election Day to “avoid even the appearance of any impact on election mail.” The post office had cut hours and mail-collection sites until 20 states threatened to sue over the cutbacks. (CNN)
4. The U.S. tops 5.4 million coronavirus cases with over 171,000 related deaths. The Maine CDC reported no new deaths and 16 new cases on Tuesday. The statewide death toll remains at 127 with 437 active cases. (WMTW)
5. The Celtics’ Gordon Hayward will miss about 4 weeks with an ankle sprain. He suffered a Grade 3 right ankle sprain in Monday’s victory over the Philadelphia 76ers.The teams meet for Game #2 on tonight. (ESPN)
