1. Governor Janet Mills gave her annual budget address to the people of Maine Tuesday. Mills’ address focused on the pandemic, health care, education and the Maine economy. The governor also honored the more than 500,000 Americans, including the 660 Mainers, who have died as a result of COVID-19. (WMTW)
2. The U.S. tops 28.2 million covid-19 cases with more than 502,000 related deaths. The Maine CDC reported two new deaths and 142 new cases on Tuesday bringing Maine’s death toll at 660 with 67 Mainers currently hospitalized. (WMTW)
3. Northern Light Health said it needs volunteers for its mass COVID-19 vaccination clinic at the Portland Expo. Officials said there is an opportunity for volunteers to get vaccinated if there are doses leftover. (WMTW) Apply to be a volunteer on northernlighthealth.org/covidvolunteers
4. Maine Maple Sunday is back, with a few changes, after being one of the first events canceled last year due to the pandemic. There will be no tours of the sugar houses and no communal pancake breakfasts. Outdoor crowd sizes are limited to 100 people and masks will be required. This year’s Maine Maple Sunday weekend is March 27 and 28. (WMTW)
5. The University of Maine football team will be able to host games in Orono this spring but there will be no fans in the stands. Maine’s first home game is scheduled for Saturday, March 13 against the University of Albany. (PRESS HERALD)
